Photo Diary: Venezia ha il mio cuore – Venice has my heart

Mary Shelley once said, ‘There is something so difference in Venice from any other place in the world, that you leave at once all accustomed habits and everyday sights to enter an enchanted garden’.

Shelley was of course, correct. There is no other place like Venice in the entire world, for no matter if Vegas, Epcot or even London tries to recreate the magic of the city… the real charm can only be found at its heart in the North of Italy.

Ive always had a desire to visit Venice, and it had long since been on my list of top places to see. So when I had the opportunity last year to visit, although just for a day, I couldn’t wait to see what the fuss was about.

Boy was it worth the hype.

Venice is a sort of time capsule (barring of course the thousands of tourists) the city is quaint, charming and romantic, and is a beautiful blend of oriental and renaissance Italian aesthetics. And although, we had only spend a day there, it was enough to make me crave a chance to really explore, and I knew I had to go back. So…when I found out that the Carnivale de Venezia was in February, I booked the trip and all I had to do was wait.

The following pictures are just a snap shot into our whistle stop trip to Venice in February when the weather was sunny, as if it was spring, and the city was bustling with the carnival spirit. So without further ado, I hope you enjoy a trifle of my pictures taken on my whistle-stop trip to Venice!

One of my favourite, and first pictures I took. How quintessentially Venetian is this?
One of the things I love most about Venice is that its like a maze, no matter how many times you’re never quite sure of where you are!
Our first official tourist stop was the Casanova Museum and Experience, I would 100% recommend this museum the VR experience as Casanova was something else!
These are the original costumes from the 2005 movie ‘Casanova’ starring Heath Ledger *swoon*
Speaking of quintessential Venetian photos…
In the evening we were treated to the most gorgeous sunset
Day Two look! Blouse from H&M, Beret is vintage and Earrings from Primark
After seeing all the wonderful costumes and masks on display in Piazza San Marco.. it would have been offensive not to get one of my own.
Speaking of Carnival…how beautiful are these costumes? I mean they ooze renaissance/ rococo vibes and I am here for IT.
I mean, where else are you going to bump into Ezio Auditore? Nowhere.
Of course, no trip to Venice is complete without visiting Caffe Florian! (Its over 300 years old, and is a MUST when you go)
How can you not love a place that practically drips gold?
We being British of course, went for the afternoon tea!
When in Venice, one must visit the Doge’s Palace…however, I would fully recommend booking the ‘Secret Itineraries’ Tour which gets you behind the scenes through the Doge’s secret prison cells (including Casanova’s famous break-out cell!)
They went pretty subtle on the interiors right?
And with that…we did adieu to our beautiful Venice until next time 🙁
